Scottish Lakeside Wedding

“What the future holds, we don’t ever fully know. But I know one thing for sure, I love you, babe. I think I always have and I know I always will.” What a beautiful lakeside wedding with this captivating couple. Mel and Andrew, we loved being a part of your special day and wish you all the best in your future together.

At Wedding Movies, we love the opportunity we are given to capture the different cultures and personalities behind each wedding. It plays such a large role in expressing our couple’s story and it’s important to us that we tell every individual’s story to the best of our ability. It seems to us that to be able to capture the love that each couple has is a priceless privilege that stretches across all cultures and personalities. We loved filming the Scottish culture and cheeky personalities of Mel and Andrew. They are such a fun loving couple and we felt so honoured to be a part of such an important time of their lives.

ATEIA Photography was the photographer for the day, creating photos that were nothing short of breath taking. Their professional manner is well sought after and they are definitely worth the reputation. The photos from Mel and Andrew’s special day are timeless and so we’re sure will still be loved in the years to come.

Congratulations, Mel and Andrew! Thank you for the opportunity to capture such a heartwarming first look.

Bridal Party Celebrations

The life of a bride is an exciting time…but it’s made even better when you get to plan and enjoy it with your closest girl friends! There is something so special about planning an extra night with just the girls. Why not take the opportunity to include some bridal party celebrations? If you are a Bride or Maid of Honour, here are our picks of ways to make this time truly memorable as best friends:

Pamper Day

Planning a wedding is hard work! Besides, in all honesty, why not use any excuse to have a day out getting spoiled with the girls? After the busyness and stress that all of the bridal party endures, a pamper day is great way to reward yourself for all of your efforts. Tip: as a Maid of Honour, this is the perfect surprise to give your best friend. Trust us, she’ll love a day to relax!

Pamper days are only limited by your imagination. Want to plan big? Kidnap the bride for the weekend and have a beauty retreat! A much needed weekend away is ideal and it will definitely be a trip that will not easily be forgotten. Or, if you would rather a smaller and more intimate feel, put on your own Pamper Day at home! If DIY is your style, make each girl a little pamper pack and enjoy it together. It’s a cute way to show how much you care for them and make some memories before they say ‘I do’.

Dress Fittings

An idea that will last far longer than a night out is to have your very own version of “Say Yes To The Dress”. What do we mean by this? Have a Pre Wedding shoot where a videographer follows you and the girls on your journey of searching for your bridal gown. Catch all of the laughter and the tears as you search together; you can even include interviews with your bridesmaids. Have them tell a funny story about your relationship or a sentimental moment. You can play it at your wedding reception, or even just keep a copy of it to watch again in the years to come.

Wedding Theme Night

There is nothing better than a chilled night in with the girls. Including this in your bridal party celebrations is always a winner among the girls. Watching cheesy wedding movies with them in the lead up to your special day is tradition, right?

Putting on a night to hang out with the girls is an ideal way to unwind and make memories. Make the night really special by having a theme. If you’re planning on watching “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” (and let’s be honest, how could you skip past that classic?), have a Greek night! Or any theme that you want. Enjoy having a small sleepover, just like when you were in high school together.

Road Trip

Life changes once you are married. Life gets busy and before you know it you’re looking at buying a house and are expecting your first child. Take this moment as a chance to plan one more road trip with your girls. Get away and make some memories in a place that is special to you. It’s definitely a bridal party celebration that you will never regret.

Photo Shoot

Love everything ‘instagram worthy’? This is ideal for you. Having a photo shoot with your bridal party before you get to the big day is quickly becoming a beloved celebration. It’s a way to have some great fun as well as getting some gorgeous photos of you all! It would also make the perfect present to give your girls, thanking them for all of their help.

Ways To Wow Your Wedding Guests

Wondering how to step outside of tradition when it comes to your wedding? Wanting to have a personal touch that will blow your guests away? At Wedding Movies, we understand that everyone is different and each couple has their own story to tell. So we’ve put together a list of things that will really help you and your partner feel like you have made your wedding your own. These tips are our advice to really wow your wedding guests:

Photo Booth

We’re starting with a classic because there’s a reason it has become so widely loved. Photo booths are fun and can be done in so many different ways. It will always fit your theme – no matter your style! Guaranteed, your guests will love it.

Photo booths can be a range of styles themselves, from the classy sip-your-champagne type to the fun loving props-galore booth. Go all out in these! It’s a way to show your personalities and to keep the guests entertained. Whatever your style, own it. Need a little more convincing? Want something a little more fresh? You will love the new GIF photo booths. They are popping up everywhere and are quickly becoming a favourite. Definitely something that will surprise the guests!

Pre-Wedding Shoots

An idea that we LOVE at Wedding Movies is to create pre-wedding shoots to surprise your guests with. These can go as far as your imagination allows and is a great way to show your guests a bit of your fun side or your personal, sentimental side, whichever you choose!

Pre-Wedding shoots can be anything from re-enacting your favourite movie scenes to creating your own to heartfelt interviews along with footage from your engagement party. Whatever your desire, it is sure to be the life of the party and will be remembered in the years to come.

Seating Charts

Seating charts are something that we are seeing become more and more extravagant. Something that was once a simple design has become quite a statement piece recently. There are all sorts of beautiful charts but have you heard of drinkable seating charts? Sounds weird at first, I know, I thought the exact same thing.

Think of it this way. Your guests walk into the excellently decorated room where your reception will take place and instead of finding a standard seating chart, they find a champagne glass with a delicately detailed tag that has their name and table number written on it. Classy and practical. Two birds, one stone. Beyond that, it is sure to be a topic of conversation among your guests.

Same Day Edits

Another videography trend that we are loving is the idea of creating a Same Day Edit. We film your day, capturing every emotion and memory, then create a video of the highlights for your guests to watch that night at the reception. It shows your special day from the preparations all the way through to the bridal party arriving at the reception. This is always a favourite among our couples. It takes the guests by surprise and they love to see a fun recap of the day they have just been a part of!

Two Dresses

A simple way to surprise your wedding guests is to show up to your reception in another dress. Again, this can be as extravagant as you like which makes it a great way to show off your personality. Show them your daring, fun side or choose an elegant and graceful dress that will look dreamlike during your first dance. Whether you choose a bright red dress or a lacy white, it’s bound to get your guests talking.

Elegant Sydney Harbourside Wedding

“I have never ever felt like saying ‘I love you’ to a girl before, until I met Kristin. She brought it out of me and that’s how I knew she was the one.” There is something so special about meeting the one. We are so happy that Kristin and Lee have found each other and we wish them all the best in their future together!

Kristin and Lee’s harbour side wedding was nothing short of magical. Sydney Dance Lounge provided the perfect setting for the chic, rustic style celebration. Situated on the waterfront, the restaurant boasts Mediterranean cuisine and a breath taking view. It provided a unique backdrop for their photoshoot with Zoe Mortley and the ideal place to commence their new adventure. Zoe’s creative ability to capture the moments and raw emotion of the day is definitely one of a kind and the surroundings of the wharf created an atmosphere that mirrored the distinction of the event.

Worth the mention is also Kristin’s dress and accessories! They took the stylishness of the day to a new level. It was a pleasure to be a part of such a beautifully detailed wedding; we loved capturing a priceless keepsake for the couple to watch with their future family in the years to come. We hope you love your videos as much as we loved creating them!

How to Personalise your Wedding

Seen more pinterest-worthy inspiration than you can handle? And still don’t know how to make your wedding feel like your own? Well, I hear you. That’s why we’ve done the research for you and listed our favourite picks for personalizing your wedding.

Video Guest Book

Here at Wedding Movies, we love videos – of course! We love to do more and capture the special token moments that you’ll want to remember for the rest of your lives, and that is why we love video guest books. There is something so special about seeing your parents or grandparents years later captured on film on your wedding day wishing you all the best and telling you how proud they are. It’s priceless. Which is precisely why it is our number one pick for personalizing your wedding.

A wedding day is crazy busy, beginning from the very first phone call in the morning where you are told a groomsmen has lost his socks. You don’t have the time to worry about small details and definitely don’t have the time to spend as long as you would like with each of your guests. Guest books solve that problem, and video guest books put someone else in charge of collecting the messages, the tears of joy and the love from all of your friends – just for you to enjoy later, not only once the honeymoon is over but for you to pull out and watch when you reach your 50th anniversary.

Time Capsule

Time capsules are another perfect idea in our books. The bride and groom write letters to each other and put them in the time capsule, hammer it shut at the ceremony and open it up on their 10th anniversary together – and why not spoil yourselves and put in a bottle of great tasting wine as well? Your future self will thank you for that anniversary gift.

You can get as creative as you want when it comes to time capsules, that’s one of the reasons why they are so great! Are you certain that you will lose a copy of your Order of Service but would love to remember it? Put it in the time capsule! Want to buy a special gift for ten years time? What a lovely surprise that would be for your partner!

Group Activity

More and more often, we are seeing destination weddings. Not only are these beautiful but they provide the perfect excuse for your guests to spoil themselves by exploring the culture or the location for themselves. Organising a group activity for your guests is definitely something that will keep them talking about your wedding for years to come.

The most common group activity we are seeing at the moment is having a wedding at the zoo. Are you an animal lover? Why not share your love for animals by organising a tour for your guests after the ceremony? Or at the museum, or aquarium, the list goes on!

Thank Your Guests

A nifty trick and sentimental touch is taking a photo specifically for your Thank You Cards. After a beautiful wedding that guests cleared their schedule for, they love nothing more than to be thanked in a personal way for being a part of such an occasion. And honestly, who doesn’t love a personal “Thank You”?

Taking a photo specifically for this purpose is a great way to make a Thank You Card feel personal without hand writing each guest a personal letter thanking them for this, that and the other. It covers all bases and is a joy to receive! Everybody loves to see the bride and groom shining with joy – and even better to receive a photo that they can keep.

Live Music

Bored of the suggestion “Choose a processional song that means a lot to you”? It’s an oldie but a goodie. Choosing a sentimental processional song really adds something special to your day and all of the guests can see it in your eyes. What takes this suggestion to a whole new level is live music. It creates an atmosphere that a CD player cannot.

Have a friend that is a musician? Even better. The sentimental value doubles when it is someone you care about singing the words for you and your partner. Plus, it lets your friend be a part of your special day!

Personalizing a Program

I am a stickler when it comes to my stationary, but this is an idea that I cannot get over – it’s so lovely! Imagine, as a guest, you sit down at your table for the reception, and the table number is decorated with photos of the bride and groom. Or a cute fact about the two of them is written on the bottom of the menu. Or there is an adorable calligraphy sign with a quote from one of them. Or card with funny stories from their journey to entertain the guests while waiting for food. Or a collage on the wall full of photos from the engagement party. The list is endless!

There are so many options with this and they are so easy to do. A very small detail that makes the world of a difference to your friends and family.

Wedding Movies: Jade & Matt

“Love is such a hard feeling to put into words but if we were asked ‘what does love look like?’ We would show a picture of you two.” Congratulations Jade and Matt on such a beautiful day but even more so on the beautiful adventure ahead as you step into marriage. We wish you all the best in your future together!

We absolutely loved filming Jade and Matt’s intimate wedding alongside Sam Jonas Productions. It was such a pleasure to work with Sam, the photographer, who captured the raw emotion and intrinsic details behind the day so perfectly. It is the candid shots, where the authentic excitement and love is caught, that become the photos that will be passed down for the generations to come. Sam knows how to capture that one in a million shot.

The quaint ceremony shone of elegance and took place at Marybrooke Manor. This stunning venue sits amongst the Dandenong Ranges with all of it’s charm – one can clearly see the reason it has lasted throughout history. The view was simply majestic, but this was matched with Jade’s breath taking wedding dress from Anna Campbell. It was not your average dress; the designer dress is one that will be spoken about by guests for years to come. All of Anna Campbell’s dresses are hand made in Melbourne at an incredibly affordable price. The detail in the lace and the intricate beading was nothing short of magnificent – it walked the line of romance and natural beauty perfectly.

“I promise to love you unconditionally…and to invest in loving you daily.”

Jess and Eric’s special day was beautiful to be a part of. We want to say congratulations to the happy couple and to wish them all the best in their future! We absolutely loved the privilege of being a part of such an important time in your lives.

The vows at a wedding is often enough to bring a sigh of admiration from the guests, but every now and then you hear a promise that brings a tear to your eye. This was such an occasion. It is truly heart warming to see such a lovely couple committing themselves to one another with a love that steps beyond what may be easy but decides to love unconditionally through the good times and bad. A love like that is a unique and rare; we loved sharing in the joy of celebrating their finding such a love. We loved capturing it for you to look back on in your future together. And what a stunning day it was! Ballara Receptions never fails to amaze with the beauty of their gardens and chapel, and the cake fromThe French Lettuce was absolutely breath taking.

Special mention to Field Of Vision Wedding and Portrait Photography Melbourne, who captured the joy behind such a memorable day so perfectly. We love the elegance in each and every ones of Shireen’s photographs. Her ability to capture people’s individual stories in a photo is astounding. We have worked with her quite a bit over the years and have always loved her mix of professionalism and of being personal, helping to make the day stress free for the couple.

5 Timeless Moments for your Videographer to Capture

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. It’s a day to remember, a day where you want the best and most sentimental details to be captured. We want the same at Wedding Movies. It’s so important to us that each couple sees their individual story told and captured in a way unique to them. Here are our top 5 picks for your videographer capture on your special day:

1. Preparations

The preparations are too often overlooked when planning a wedding. It’s the last time that you have with your girls before you take that step into marriage, and it’s usually full of so many laughs that it’s a time that you want your videographer to be there for. And don’t you want to capture your soon-to-be husband going bowling with his friends before the wedding instead of getting ready? Those are the moments that you want to keep and watch back in the years to come.

A touch that we love to add when filming the preparations is to interview both you and your fiancee separately. We ask you questions about how you are feeling, how you met the love of your life, how he proposed – all the questions that help to tell your story. These moments are beautiful to watch together after your wedding. It means you can look back and see how excited and nervous each other were. It’s also so beautiful to see each other talk about the other person when they’re not around  with so much love and respect. It’s definitely a moment you will want to make sure is captured!

2. First Look

The first look is on everybody’s list and for good reason. It’s the priceless moment when you are walking down the aisle and you see each other for the first time. You see the anticipation to step into your future written all over each other’s faces. Nothing beats this moment. But there are some that are definitely close by. We suggest including the first look with the parents and the bride/groom. The looks of pride and love on their faces when they see their child grown and about to begin a marriage themselves is a moment that you should keep in your memories as long as you can. As the years pass, you won’t regret having your videographer capture this moment.

3. Venue

The venue is painstakingly chosen. It’s usually the first thing you choose and it sets the tone for the rest of your wedding. It’s beautiful and you have decided it is the perfect place to celebrate you as a couple. Wouldn’t you love to have that captured by your videographer?

One of the ways to capture a venue that is becoming more and more popular is the use of a drone. It adds an amazing cinematic effect to your wedding video and makes it feel as though you were in your very own romance movie. It creates that fairytale feel and really adds a whole new dimension to your video.

4. Video Guest Book

As much as your wedding day is to celebrate your love and future, it is also a great opportunity for all of your friends and family to meet together. Guest books are a lovely way to remember that occasion, but a video guest book takes it a step further. We love organising to have your friends and family filmed. It’s something that you can look back on in the years that follow and see their faces as they wish you all the best in your future together.

5. Unique Moments

A great way to ensure that your sentimental moments and unique story is captured is by having two videographers on the job. Having a second person there means that you have a second set of eyes and that is when that one in a million shot is captured. That moment that everyone else missed when the groom looked so lovingly at his bride while something else had her attention. The nieces and nephews playing in the corner with bubbles while everyone else is focussed on the signing of the registry. All of the little details that breath life into your story – can be captured when there is a second person keeping an eye out for them.

Wedding Movies: Sarah & Mark

“Exactly five years ago, I received a heaven sent package: a man who is patient, gentle, smart, comical, loving and understanding.”

Sarah and Mark are the epitome of the purity and sweetness found in young love. We love this video because it captures the fun and the anticipation behind stepping into a new future together.

What better way to celebrate this young love than amongst the picturesque gardens of  Ballara Receptions. With the weeping willows and the beautifully classic “Love” sign to pose by, their wedding looked nothing short of something belonging to a fairytale.

Ballara Receptions provided the whole package for Sarah and Mark, from decadent catering to a timeless garden and lake for the photoshoot. We can confidently say that Ballara Receptions fulfilled the garden wedding of anybody’s dreams.
